clean sweep

My mom was a pack-rat . My dad was a sweeper .  Dad liked to get rid of the past while Mom held on to it too much .

And me ?   ~  no black  , no white   ~  I'm totally gray !!!!!

But there're times I wish I didn't throw this or that  away .  I look at the intrinsic value of objects and hate disrespecting and wasting so much that is usable .  Even though it will never be used again  , long forgotten in the piles .  Should I have gotten it in the first place ?

Renewal and change is a part of life . Perhaps I am resistant, attached to things for silly sentimental reasons . Whereas my frds always looking forward to create new things .

To me,the past holds meaning and clues . You went through it for a reason . What was it ? Why does it cling ?

I mean,we can only live in the now . But it feels like you are throwing away the accumulation of yourself, in some way  ~  Throwing away your story .  But then its just pitched by your relatives when you die , anyway .  And you forgot about all that stuff until you had to clean it out .

Some of us cling to the past, while some ignore it .  Some of us focus on the past but some  focus on the future .  Some of us preserve ,  some create . Where is our mind  at ? What does it say about us ?

Our consumer society exists to buy things, and throw them out  ~   Material has little meaning, little value after its bought, little connection becoz we did not make it ourselves, only exchanged it for numbers on a dollar bill .

It is money that make us rich, not things . Poverty is living without  $$$ , not the essentials of life . $$$ makes life ,not things . Items are merely the water we swim in,what we relate to as we fly through life enjoying it .

History is a much ignored thing these days . Story doesn't mean much . We think in equations, concepts, moving around meaning to suit our whim . Not living in the drudgery of someone else's imaginary take on reality and our place in it .

We must move on and bury the past . Let go of the leaves in autumn and hibernate until the spring . To buy new ' food ' for our consumption .

But we don't create and don't respect what is created by modern machines . So we don't actually care about Nature as well . We produce,we work, trade for $$$$ in our paycheck . What we do is constricted creation in some office or mill to be converted into numbers for the bottom line . We are removed from creativity as we are from Creation .

We are good at discarding the past . We don't think about what we have thrown out . Much like we discarded Nature and acquired the environment instead . What will we replace that with in the future ?  Something alive for something dead ??!!!!

When was the last time we actually cleaned  " our house  "  ? What would we throw out and what would we keep ?
